these white boy movies are not for me...so many of my friends love this movie and his others (metropolitan) and noah baumbach. i do not get the hype at all i think they are so unfunny and boring and all of the characters are so straight and bland! i get that the humor is supposed to be dry and the characters are supposed to be pretentious and unlikeable but it just doesnt work for me.

so good! i love the l word and i love these two gals on and off the show. a quick, fun, charming read that i gobbled up in a few sittings. love! long live the lesbians!

oh my godddd this was SO GOOD. cant beleive i had never seen this before. so HOT. but also just a really good movie besides the super sexy lesbian stuff. this was STRESSFUL!!! good tension and looked amazing. really good. recommend AF.

finished this morning. boy was this a labor of love! i checked this out from the library so i couldn't annotate it to make sense of things...i had to take notes separately and it took a long time! but this was really great. i had heard about it from a video essay about beauty, where they talked about murdoch's idea of "unselfing." i have lots to say about this and it will continute to inform my field notes as i think about beauty and ritual and attention.
my one critique of this is that she doesn't really address the political/social implications of a moral framework oriented towards beauty and perfection...seems like it could be used to push dangerous agendas about why certain people are less valuable, etc. i dont think this dismisses the value of her work, but something to be more careful of when talking about this. this probably doesnt make any sense if you havent read this or arent familiar with similar moral philosophies.

so good! i dont remember what made me remember this movie but im so glad something did! i loved this movie when i was little and it lived up to that experience even as a 21 year old. the kittens are so cute, the animation is so great, the characters are so goofy (so many great bits!), and the music is fireeee. ugh i want to be a cat in paris. was fun to talk to my mom about this after because she loves it too! yay rich cats and jazz!

this movie came up in one of my classes and it had been recommended to me a few years ago. it was really cute! i didnt grow up on ghibli movies and i havent loved a lot of the ones ive seen (my neighbor totoro and howl's moving castle seem to be upsetting to people that i didnt like) but i liked this one! makes sense considering i also really liked the secret world of arietty. i like the ones about girls just doing stuff in a cute house...

wow i love this movie. this was my third watch...ive watched this movie every spring since it came out in 2023 and it reminds me how to live. look up. look at the trees. and their shadows. smile at neighbors. listen to lou reed. cry. sit in the sun. take a bath. shoot film. eat some noodles. god its so good. ritual/routine as a spiritual practice and attention as a life/moral practice have been on my mind a lot recently so this was perfectly timed with my current readings. more on those to come...

watched this immediately after finishing the book. disappointed at the characterizations and lack of depth. it looked great and i love the style but as an adaptation this really let me down. at least let her burn down the town!!! ugh let us be angry!

i needed this reminder to restore my agency. i have a life to live and will not let it be pawned off by big tech companies. my attention is mine!!! most of this was not new information. i know google knows everything about me. i know social media is killing us and destroying democracy. but this was probably more of a matter of timing for me. the simulated stuff was all pretty dumb but overall this was effective and made me get the fuck off my phone.

this was cute, nothing extraordinary. i was under the impression it was sapphic, so that was a bit disappointing but the womanhood at the end was sweet and fun.
